ASK THE EXPERT
I’ve heard about a type of baseboard called a “Cove Heater” that goes on the ceiling. What is it?
Cove heaters are radiant heaters that warm objects, people, furniture, and floors. They can be convenient because they can be placed high on the wall or ceiling. This saves space, and can also benefit situations such as an assisted living facility where warm/hot surfaces are a concern.
However, it is difficult to stay warm when you are not directly in the path of the heater. It’s like moving into the shade, away from the sun. Plus, heat rises, and having a heat source down low on the wall results in much better, more effective heat circulation for the entire living space.
If you require a heater up high on the wall or in the ceiling, Cadet’s ComPak heaters up to 1500 watts are rated for ceiling mount applications. Because the fan blows the warm air, it can provide more effective heat circulation than a radiant ceiling application.
